    Hey Guys,
Sorry I know this isnt shopping related but do any of u guys know how much it costs to have it removed? Also is it covered by medicare since I will need an oral "surgeon"? Also any good recommendations? Most of the doctors I have been to treat people like animals...no real concern for ur condition, pain, etc
Also any personal experiences on how long it takes to recover, etc?
    Thank you

i forget exactly how much mine cost but i believe it was around $1000-$1500.
most of that was covered my insurance. i had mine done around vancouver, so that wouldn't really help you out. just ask your dentist to recommend a good oral surgeon.

it took me a solid 4 days to be able to go back to work, then after a week i could almost everything again and it doesnt FULLY heal for a few months. but you don't notice it as much after a week.
its just gross when food gets stuck in the holes  you have to use a syringe to get it out.

It's really not the best place to ask this, nor should you trust the advice from anybody but a professional on medical matters.

    Recovery = depends on everyone.
Price = depends on the dentist.
Insurance = you should call your insurance company. Perhaps they cover the operation but not he anesthesiology. Also note that you might have to purchase painkillers for the following day(s).

You can call my dentist (or talk to the secretaries) for information:450-629-444

^ shes just asking for personal opinions and how it was for different people.
i don't see the problem in that.

Thanks for the opinion. Yeah guess it would be best for me to get it done during my Xmas break. I am not good with pain.

    Agreed. Jeeshhh...

As for me, I needed about 4 days to recover... meaning to be able to talk to people and eat without being in pain. It does take forever to properly heal, but 4 days should get you back to school/ work/ etc. Mine was $1100 for all 4, but I had only local anesthesia which I believe is much cheaper than being knocked out. My regular dentist did it, so it was not covered by medicare and had to come out of my dental plan. From what I was told, it is only covered by medicare if you have to have it done in a hospital for some reason... like if it's a more serious surgury that an actual medical surgeon has to tend to. That's just what I was told though...

do you know if your wisdom teeth are growing in straight? i had three wisdom teeth, but all three of them were growing sideways UNDERNEATH the gums, so they were pushing against my teeth and made them sorta crooked (boo urns!). i think my surgery took more work than most people so it was about 2000.

they actually put me to sleep, and then they had to dig through the gum and chiseled the teeth out piece by piece, so at the end of the operation, there weren't three teeth in a bottle, but several pieces. i know, this sounds horrifying and so gross, but it honestly wasn't that painful. you get prescribed pain killers. as long as you take them when you're suppose to you should be totally fine!

the only thing that really killed me is that i couldn't eat anything except congee and yogurt for about 4-5 days. after the first few days, my cheeks also started bruising, they were yellow and green, and also very swollen. my friends called me chipmunk for a while!

i also had dissolvable stitches, so i didn't need to go back to get them removed. but they did dissolve quite early, so food did get stunk in the holes.

but you will be totally fine! it's not that painful, besides not being able to eat! take yor t3's on time and YES, do it during xmas break. but usually specialists are booked several months in advance...so i don't know if you'll be able to find one with an opening for this winter break.

^ oh yeah I forgot about that. They are called impacted teeth and only one of mine was like that. It took my dentist as long to do that one as it did for him to do all the other 3 combined. It was also the slowest to heal and got the most crap stuck in the hole. Those ones suck...

I had one side removed by my regular dentist (I spent like almost two hours in office! And it was a super slow recovery - like 2 weeks before I could eat normally again), and another side by an oral surgeon because they were growing in sideways (10 minutes in office! 1 day recovery). Obviously the oral surgeon cost more, but the time I saved being not in agony was soooo worth it.

It's not covered by medicare, but if you're covered under extended healthcare (work?, school?, parents?) most of it will be covered. Sometimes there might be a cap at how much you can claim in a year, or if you go to a specialist they might agree to just pay the regular dentist cost - it really depends on your particular plan though.
